Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a list of the most common questions we get asked regarding Podium. If you can't find the answer to your query please call Support on 01335 301200.

What is Web 2.0?

By now, most people will have heard the term ‘Web 2.0’, some with a greater understanding of what it stands for than others. At the heart of all Web 2.0 tools lies the word collaboration.  What differentiates Web 2.0 tools is that they encourage participation from the user as opposed to the user just gathering information from them.  Visit www.softease.com/web2 for more information on Web 2.0 and some of the tools that Web 2.0 encompasses.

Why is my password not working when I try to access my Podium options?

The default password you need to use for the Podium Options area is 'audience'. This is a different password to the one used to access your FTP account.

When I click on the ‘Can I FTP?’ button I receive a message saying ‘you failed to connect to an FTP site’.

If you have a local or internal Firewall within your network, ensure that it is correctly configured to allow Passive FTP connections. If your internet connection passes through a Proxy Server you may need to contact the organisation in control of this so that they can set up a rule to allow Passive FTP connections to pass through it.

I have made a recording but I am unable to publish as the publish button is disabled.

To be able to publish the podcast, Podium requires these three minimum elements:
- A podcast title
- An episode title
- An audio file or a recording

Once you have all three of these elements then the Publish button will change to orange. Click on this and Podium will begin the publish process.

When I click on the record button I receive an error message saying ‘A required registry key was not found, this may be caused by third party software.’

Please contact Technical Support on 01335 301200 to obtain the fix for this issue.

I have published my podcast but I am unable to listen to it in iTunes or other software aggregators.

If you have taken out hosting with us, ensure that the web address in ‘Podium Options’ follows one of the formats below. This will depend upon whether you have set a Podcast folder or left it as the default, which is a forward slash.

It is important to ensure, if you have set a Podcast Folder, that you add that podcast folder onto the end of the web address as seen in the examples below.

After you have made these changes to correct the web address, you will need to republish the podcast (if you had already published it). Once you have done this, Podium will provide you with the correct RSS feed that will successfully play your podcast in your chosen aggregator.

When I press the test connection button I receive a message that says ‘access denied’ or ‘permission denied’.

This should only be a problem if you use your own hosting details. It happens because Podium is trying to create the podcast folder that you have entered into the Podcast Folder textbox on an area of your server that you do not have permission to write to. Podium will try to create the folder in the root of the server, which is not relative to the folder that contains your FTP username and password. To correct the issue, type in the complete path from the root of the server to where your podcast folder is located into the Podcast Folder textbox.
